NSW Labor candidate for Upper Hunter Jeff Drayton and NSW Deputy Labor Leader Yasmin Catley have called on the NSW National Party and Nationals candidate for Upper Hunter David Layzell to commit to running a positive campaign during the Upper Hunter by-election.
This morning in Singleton Mr Drayton and Ms Catley publicly committed to running a positive campaign, focused on delivering more jobs, better job security and a fairer share for the people of the Upper Hunter.
Mr Drayton has also written to Mr Layzell calling on him to relinquish the domain names jeffdrayton.com.au and suegilroy.com.au, which were bought by the National Party to run misleading smear campaigns against their political opponents.
Mr Drayton said:
This campaign should be about the Upper Hunter getting our fair share. I’m running to bring more jobs and more opportunity to our region. I’ve got no interest in smears or dirty tricks.
“People here want us to focus on the things that actually matter to them. I’m going to be talking about secure jobs, better roads, and stopping the cuts to TAFE. It’s disappointing that the Nationals candidate isn’t doing the same”
Ms Catley said: “After holding this seat for 90 years, all the Nationals have to run on is smear. David Layzell was Michael Johnsen’s right hand man and he is just continuing the dirty tricks the Nats have been doing for years. Today we’re giving him the opportunity to turn over a new leaf. He can start by handing back those domain names.”
